Law Enforcement & Public Safety Mass

Members of law enforcement and public safety agencies, both dead and alive, were honored today. That’s because today was El Paso’s sixth annual Law Enforcement and Public Safety Mass. Both agencies throughout the region host the mass in conjucion with the Diocese of El Paso.

Mass started at 11:00 a.m. In St. Patrick’s Cathedral on North Mesa. The mass is offered in thanksgiving for the sacrifice and service to the community given by law enforcement and public safety officers at every level. The celebration began with a Mass celebrated by Revered Mark J. Seitz, D.D.

The mass was open to the public to pray for fallen officers in their communities. The United States Marshall for the the Western District of Texas, Robert Almonte also extended his invitation for people to join him after the mass. All attendees were invited to a reception in the St. Patrick’s Multi-Purpose Center immediately after.

Almonte said he sympathizes with families who have lost loved ones. He hopes “it (made) them feel good to know that their loved ones have not been forgotten.” That’s why he wants the mass to continue every year. He encourages any law enforcement employee, even those who’ve retired, to attend next year.
