Sunland Park city council member arrested on drug charge

Sunland Park City Council member Sergio Carrillo has been arrested on a charge of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s spokeswoman told ABC-7 that Carrillo was pulled over in his vehicle on Saturday at 1000 McNutt Road due to “suspicious circumstances.”

The sheriff’s spokeswoman would not elaborate on what those circumstances were.

The sheriff’s deputies asked Carrillo’s permission to search the vehicle and he refused.

A search warrant was obtained and the vehicle was searched and marijuana was found, leading to Carrillo’s arrest.
