Mother says daughter was beaten, presses district

A Las Cruces woman tells ABC-7 her daughter was jumped at Zia Middle School and she wants the school district to take action.

An official at the Las Cruces School District tells ABC-7 they take bullying very seriously. But the mother says the bullying has continued for weeks after she says her daughter was attacked.

“I have to do something for my daughter because I don’t want to find her dead you know because of this bullying,” Laura Ruiz said.

Ruiz says four girls jumped her 14-year-old on campus after school about four weeks ago. She says her daughter suffered from a concussion. Ruiz says the bullying has since continued on social media.

“The student met with the principal. We want to figure out how to keep her safe. We don’t want her to go to certain places on the campus alone,” Spokeswoman Jo Galvan said. “We’ve offered to have her go to a different school.”

Galvan says there isn’t enough evidence to prove that more then one student jumped Ruiz’s daughter and they don’t know who started the fight. She says multiple students at the school have been disciplined because of online bullying. But Ruiz says they’re not taking the situation seriously enough.

“I think this crossed the line with us,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz says they will be working towards pressing charges against the students involved.
Galvan added that the school has set up multiple meetings with Ruiz to discuss the issue but she hasn’t been able to make them.
