El Paso teen shares his story after being hit by a suspected

caused by drunk driving. we’ve told you of campaigns — like out for blood — which are in place to help prevent d-w-i’s today, we introduce you to a family who has been affected by an alleged drunk driver. evan folan has this story you’ll see only on abc 7. “you know it’s every parent worst nightmare…” sorrel rosson is a junior at utep and plans to transfer to texas tech in lubbock for his senior year. “he is 18 years old and he is a junior that is amazing he is a spectacular son. we are so proud of him.” h dreams of becoming a talent agent – but on veterans day – that dream was almost lost after nearly losing his life a fiery crash on the east side. “the car caught on fire and the left door was jammed and i had to go to the passenger side but that door was jammed so i had to roll down the window to climb out.” stand up:”sorr tells me he was on his way home from a night out with friends and it was at this intersection of pelicano and joe battle where his car was hit from behind by an alleged drunk driver.” :”there was this lady there she was calling 911 and was screaming and yeah i just saw that my car was caught on fire.” sorrel suffered third degree burns to his arm, hands, back and face. surgeons used the skin from his left thigh as a skin graft for his right hand and arm. “we didn’t recognize him, his whole face was wrapped really really swollen, he couldn’t open his eyes they were swollen shut, it was pretty traumatic for all of us. i couldn’t imagine what he went through.” although home a wee after the crash – rosson still has a long recovery. “the pain and jus anxiety and sometimes i have little flashbacks of what happened so i cant stay asleep” as his bod continues to heal – he wants others to learn from his story. “if you’re going t drink find a place to stay get and uber, get a taxi just don’t drive” sorrel’s car was hit by 42-year-old juan barraza. he was charged with intoxication assault. after searching court records we discovered a man with the same name and age was arrested twice before under suspicion of driving while intoxicated … but both charges were dismissed. police had to close off a portion of dyer street today
