Veterans remembered with wreaths on graves

From Arlington to San Francisco, veterans are being remembered today as thousands of volunteers lay wreaths on graves for the winter holidays. Wreaths Across America is an annual tradition meant to unite families with their loved ones who once served. Hundreds of volunteers and family members gathered at the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery Saturday morning, braving the wind and rain to remember those lost.

Wreaths were laid out across the country’s national cemeteries, decorating graves of soldiers now dead, remembering them and their spirit in time for the holidays.

“It’s good to remember our veterans, here we’re honoring those that have passed on, normal causes, age, or killed in action,” said event director Debbie Torres with the Civil Air Patrol.

Those honored came from all walks of life, and fought for their country in different times, like World War II, Korea, Afghanistan

One woman we spoke with said she visits every year, keeping the memory of her father alive

“We not only have hum for Christmas, we have him all the time because he’s always in our hearts, this just makes it extra special to have it combined with all the veterans out here,” said Dolores Innis.

The volunteers haven’t finished, they’re getting together tomorrow morning to finish laying down the wreaths and invite anyone who wants to help to join them at 8:30.
