Running Back Pickett Signs with Miners

Head coach Sean Kugler announced the signing of running back Peytton Pickett out of Arlington Sam Houston High School on Friday.

“Peytton (Pickett) is a very talented back, who has an opportunity to figure into the mix this spring as a mid-year graduate,” Kugler said. “He is a great kid from an excellent family and is an excellent student.”

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound tailback led the Texans in rushing (1,610), total touchdowns (17) and total points (104) during the 2015 season. Pickett gained a career-high 269 yards and scored three touchdowns against Fort Worth Paschal. Pickett rushed for a career-best four scores to open the 2015 season against Manor High School.

Pickett, most importantly, excelled in the classroom, working towards a 3.54 GPA and graduating this December. Pickett will be eligible to participate during the spring season, while he’s the second addition to the program this week after Kugler announced the signing of offensive lineman Tanner Stallings on Dec. 16.

Pickett also received offers from New Mexico, Kansas, SMU and Delaware State.

The remaining signing class will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 3 on National Signing Day.
