Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister dead at 70 years old

Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister died Monday afternoon after being diagnosed with an aggressive cancer over the weekend.

He was 70 years old.

Lemmy formed Motorhead in 1975 after being fired from Hawkwind in May 1975 for, as he says, “doing the wrong drugs,” according to the bio and the band’s official website.

He called the band Motorhead, inspired by the final song he had written for Hawkwind.

“Lemmy always concentrated on very basic music: loud, fast, raucous, rock n roll…,” the band’s website states.

Motorhead is best known for the songs “Ace of Spades,” “Built for Speed,” and “Killed by Death.”

There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.
We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.
We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motrhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.

Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.
