Montwood H.S. introduces Famaligi as new football coach

EL PASO – Montwood High School introduced Ariel Famaligi as the new head football coach and athletic coordinator at a pep rally at the school on Monday.

Famaligi takes over a program on the upswing. The Rams were 1-8 two seasons ago but rebounded to post a 6-4 record last year.

“I’m not coming in trying to rebuild, trying to start from scratch,” said Famaligi. “I’m gonna build on the successes that we’ve had and add my flavor to it.”

Famaligi was a four-year starter at left tackle for UTEP before becoming an assistant at Del Valle, where he spent a decade.

The new coach says he is confident he can keep the Rams moving in the right direction.

“I believe in myself. I believe in the things I can do for a football team,” he said. “And I can’t wait to apply the things that I’ve learned over the course of my professional career.”
