FBI identifies alleged GECU robber

FBI agents tell ABC-7 they have caught the man accused of robbing a GECU in the lower valley.

The robbery happened Tuesday around 2 p.m. at the GECU located on the 8900 block of Alameda Avenue.

FBI identified him as Alfonso Ismael Hernandez. Police said Hernandez entered the bank and robbed a teller for an undisclosed amount or currency. He then fled on foot. No injuries were reported.

Hernandez has been charged with one count of bank robbery in the Western District of Texas Federal Court.

FBI said a portion of the money stolen was recovered.

Police said the successful collaboration between FBI and Crimes Against Persons lead to the capture of Hernandez within 24 hours. Hernandez was taken into custody without incident.

Police said because of the collaboration with other agencies, EPPD has a successful rate of apprehending bank robbers within the first two days.

GECU told ABC-7 that this is a law enforcement matter and therefore could not comment on any details of the investigation.
