Fire at abandoned building under investigation

El Paso firefighters spent much of their Sunday night battling a fire at an abandoned building in Far East El Paso.

The fire began shortly before 7 p.m. on the 12700 block of Hueco Club Road. Firefighters were able to put out the majority of the fire by 9 p.m., but continued to extinguish hot spots until just before 1 in the morning. Firefighters say about half of the structure was damaged. There are no damage estimates at this time.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but a fire spokesman told ABC-7 that there was some suspicious activity in the area and investigators will be looking into it Monday morning.
