CAP, EPPD investigating east El Paso shooting

Crimes Against Persons and the El Paso Police Department are investigating a shooting Thursday that left one person injured.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. on the 12500 block of Paseo Rae in east El Paso. That’s near John Drugan Elementary School.

Police said officers arrived at the scene and found 20-year-old Daniel Cortez Jr. had been shot multiple times. A preliminary investigation revealed that Cortez and 19-year-old Daisy Escalera were with three male suspects, one White, one Hispanic, and one Black.

Police said at some point, the victims were involved in an altercation and began to run away. While the victims ran, a uknown suspect or suspects began to shoot at the two with handguns.

Cortez was shot and was taken to Del Sol Medical Center. He is listed in stable condition. Escalera was not hurt during the incident.

There is no word of any arrests. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
