UTEP Spring season wrapped up

spring cleaning. i’m talking spring football. utep’s annual game today… and for more we bring in a man with a little spring in his step…that would be luke lyddon. luke? i know its only spring ball but seeing all the players hit the turf reminds us football is just another day closer. but the real theme of tonight and all offseason is the quarterback battle between kavika johnson and ryan metz. so would we see a front runner after tonight? the simple answer …no. tonight was dominated by the defense. early on…metz looking for terry juniel but the pass is broken up! and then it was kavika johnsons turn … johnson buys time ..scrambles out of the pocket..and he has a man long!!! but he overthrows batson. a lot of missed opportunities for both men behind center. there were still some postive plays. metz back to throw and he finds juniel who makes the grab and the move this time for the big gain!! so we jump ahead to the 10 play redzone drill– johnson with the fade to the back of the endzone and tyler batson pulls it in for one of the few scores all night. its still early on in the off season but this should get fans excited! johnson showing he can do it with his legs too! flashing inner mike vick there for the 10 yard gain. there was no final score taken but it was clear the defense won tonight huh fellas? “uh well just the knowledge o the defense overall and just playing hard and fast because most of time with new d you play slow but we have been playing really fast.” “i like both of tho kids..in the fall.” “the were a lot of miscues on my part ..we didn’t click the way we wanted to.” “we a starting to get a lot more comfortable… execute.” the miners open the regular season the miners open the regular season against the aggies on september 3rd. battle of i-10! no better way to start the year. by the way…nmsu spring game is
