Overnight fire reported at Highlander Apartments

Residents at the Highlander Apartments were evacuated overnight after a fire broke out in the west-central El Paso complex.

Firefighters said the fire was reported at 3:30 a.m.

Our ‘Round the Clock crew captured video of firefighters at work on the 1700 block of Hawthorne St. while residents stood in the street, some talking on their cell phones.

The apartments house many UTEP students.

Investigators have not said what sparked the fire or the amount of damage it caused.

Residents were allowed back in before 5 a.m.
