who’ve been evading justice. today is abc-7’s crime takedown day. we’re partnering with the u-s marshals service to help them bring some of their most wanted fugitives to justice. abc-7’s rick cabrera is here to explain. rick: from now until 6-30 — deputy marshals will be sharing some of their cases with you and they will also be at our station to take your calls … whether it be a tip or just a simple question about how you can help. joing me now is u-s marshal for the western district of texas robert almonte … marshal, the community’s involvement is key in bringing in fugitives, correct? let’s profile our first fugitive now. the u-s marshals are looking for armando orta. the 51-year-old lived in las cruces and still has family there. orta was charged with the rape of a girl in 2008 and he’s been on the run since. court documents say the child was younger than 13 years old and detectives say the abuse lasted five years. investigators say initially, he had money and vehicles that helped him lay low, but it’s been eight years since the alleged crime. armando orta also goes by “mando” orta. he may be working as a landscaper or contractor. he is six feet high and weighs 200 pounds. he has a scar on the upper right arm. orta was featured on “america’s most wanted” in 2008. orta is als wanted by las cruces p-d. ask about the cooperation across state lines if you know anything about him, call 915-496-1775. again, the phone lines will be open here until 6:30. if you want to give a tip about orta or any fugitive, you’ve been thinking about it, now is your chance. you could face consequences if you don’t. we’ll talk about that later on this newscast. happening within the hour — new mexico
