socorro herrera lost her daughter about a month ago– it took weeks and countless tests for doctors to diagnose 13-year-old aileen burkett with hlh. h-l-h causes the immune system to work abnormally. the white blood cells attack other blood cells– causing organs to enlarge. aileen was athletic and energetic. we also spoke with her teammates who are coping with the loss: “we’re doing ok it’s gonna take time to heal from this heartbreak” sophia solis and the rest of the el paso sol volleyball team talk about aileen everyday. they wear jerseys with aileen’s number– 17– and rember their teammate who had a passion for volleyball. aileen’s mother says her symptoms became noticeable in january– skin rashes– joint pain– extreme fatigue– and prolonged fever. just some of the symptoms of hlh. aileen underwent one of the treatments of the disease– chemotherapy. it was followed by complications– including an enlarged liver. socorro herrera says the disease was not caught in time: “the good cells become ba cells…the day before she passed away” in aileen’s case– hlh may have been hereditary. hlh can also be acquired. herrera is now starting the aileen burkett hlh foundation– to inform parents about the signs to look out for. 346- 7631 now continuing our complete coverage of the e-p-i-s-d cheating scandal… 4 of the people accused in the episd cheating scandal have posted bond and are out of jail. but one former administrator is still in custody. jail records show federal agents have released former e- p-i-s-d associate superintendent, damon murphy, after he posted bond. also released … former austin high principal john tanner … former austin high assistant principal mark tegmeyer … and current silva magnet assistant principal nancy love. records state former austin assistant principal, diane thomas, was quote, “released to another agency.” the abc-7 i-team is trying to figure out which agency has her in custody. we’ll have more about the investigation coming up later on gmep including who else could be charged it’s 6-07! toss to krsytal upper level pacific storm systems continue to develop and swing across the southwestern u.s. this means more wind for the region today as strong westerly winds develop again this afternoon. slightly cooler conditions will keep dust down a bit…but expect some. most of the region will stay dry …but a little moisture is working in. thus a few showers and storms will be possible over the mountains today and saturday. sunday a backdoor front and easterly winds will bring gulf moisture into the area. this will bring slight chances for showers and storms to areas east of the rio grande now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… now to an abc-seven traffic alert..on the westside. starting this morning at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. this afternoon the i-10 east mesa exit ramp will be closed. this was the same closure earlier this week that caused quite a bit of traffic in that area so you’ll want to exit at redd road or sunland park if you are heading east and give yourself some extra time. crews will be laying asphalt for the go- 10 project in this area. coming up on gmep … a disturbing case of child abuse out of las cruces. the details from our new mexico mobile newsroom. also in new mexico, a school administrator accused of molesting a student …what court documents reveal about how long the abuse was happening.. / and this is abc-7, where news comes first!
