Allegiant Air offers chance for free getaway on first flight out of El Paso
Allegiant Air will begin flying out of El Paso on Friday, and it wants to bring someone along for free.
The city of El Paso announced in January that Allegiant was coming.
Last night, Allegiant posted on its Facebook page that it wanted to celebrate its first flight out of El Paso with the public.
“El Paso! We want to celebrate our new service out of the El Paso International Airport (ELP) with you this Friday at 9 am! Head over to the airport for Vegas and San Diego festivities, and come with your bags packed and ready to go for a chance to win a getaway to San Diego on the inaugural flight!”
Allegiant’s arrival is part of Mayor Oscar Leeser’s campaign “El Paso. Open for Business,” to help improve economic development and bring more jobs to the city.
Allegiant Air is set to offer non-stop, roundtrip flights to San Diego and Las Vegas on Mondays and Fridays.
“We are very excited to be here in El Paso,” Daniel Myer, manager of airports for Allegiant Air, said in January.
According to city officials, Las Vegas is the El Paso’s sixth most popular destination, San Diego is ranked 14th.
A promotional price is offered valid until January 13, where customers can purchase flights for as low as $39 one-way.
El Paso International Airport started discussions with the airline in 2012.
Jeff Schultes, spokesman for the airport, told ABC-7 it doesn’t mean new jobs at El Paso International, Allegiant will subcontract workers already employed at the airport.
Myer told an ABC-7 photographer that could change if more flights are added in the future.
Mayor Oscar Leeser, Daniel Myer and Schultes all agreed the new move will improve quality of life and economic development for the El Paso.
