Spreading the Gospel: Christian churches expand to meet demand in El Paso

Abundant Living Faith Center is constructing a new place of worship
and in recent years other large churches have sprung up around town.

In Northwest El Paso, you can find the new Abundant Living Faith Center sign nestled in between mounds of dirt with a crane in the background.

“We’ve seen this kind of growth before,” Charles Nieman said.

Nieman is pastor at Abundant Living Faith Center. He said the recent spurt in big churches popping up around the city isn’t necessarily a spurt.

Nieman told ABC-7 the faithful have been steadily growing in numbers throughout the years.

“People are getting more serious about their life and more serious about their walk with God and more serious about their children having a relationship with God. That has come from the stuff that goes on in this society and they don’t like it,” Nieman said.

Nieman said the recent growth the city has seen has also contributes to churches adding campuses and they saw a need.

“We have several thousand families that come here from the West Side and they would ask us if we were going to build something over there or move to that side,” Nieman said.

Other churches like Vino Nuevo Church also recently opened a place of worship in Northeast El Pasto.

“We’ve been here over 10 years and it has taken time,” said Miguel Moran, associate pastor at Vino Nuevo.

He told ABC-7 their expansion is more a matter of spreading the Gospel.

“We are not going to wait around or sit around and wait for them to come in. We’ve been called to go out there and work,” Moran said.

Both Vino Nuevo and Abundant Living Faith Center’s new additions are smaller but both say the Gospel remains the same.
