and in stomtrack weather, iris! this is all the news you need to start your saturday, may 7th. abc-7’s “good morning el paso weekend” starts right now! good morning and thank you for joing us… i’m andrew j. polk. new this morning. we now know the name of the passenger killed in the deadly rollover yesterday in northeast el paso. according to the chapin high school student council twitter page – christopher carreon was a senior on the varsity baseball team. the crash also left 2 others seriously injured. it happened shortly after four o’clock friday afternoon on gateway north near moonlight. that’s just before you get to hondo pass. the driver somehow lost control of the car and crashed into a sign and fence near an eye care center. the car rolled over and ended up on its top. a police dispatch supervisor told us crews had to use the jaws of life to get everyone out. a woman who lives nearby told abc-7 as soon as she heard the crash — she rushed over to help: “when i came out here i saw the car was flipped already and we saw a guy with his hand sticking out… so we know he was alive.” the identies of the other 2 victims have not been released. police are still trying to figure out what caused a driver of a trailer to drive off i-10 and crash into a motel. it happened just after 10’clock yesterday morning in west el paso. the driver of the truck veered off i-10 east near starry night … … then it went across a parking lot. we’re told the truck almost hit a funeral home but went right toward a studio six motel … through a rock wall … coming to an stop inside a motel room. the man who was inside that room was killed. we have confirmed he worked for a company called tower comm. they’re based in raleigh, north carolina – and work on cell phone towers. a representative of the company told us el paso police had notified them about the crash. they’re not releasing his name until relatives have been notified. as for the semi — it was carrying a load of heavy metal beams. we’re told the driver of the semi was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. police are not releasing his name at this time. now to that murderous rampage in maryland–and, the shock over who is allegedly responsible. the killing spree started outside a high school, before moving to a shopping mall and a grocery store. three people died before the suspect was taken down. and, authoritiesare stunned that the alleged suspect, is a federal law officer. pierre thomas has more on the story. watch the final tense moments as authorities arrest a federal police officer accused of going on a deadly rampage that left three people dead in 24 hours. broadcastify sot: “there’s been a shooting at the mall, we’re trying to setup a perimeter, looking out for a gray, silver car?” 11:15 a.m. – shots are fired in the parking lot at the montgomery mall in maryland? a woman killed at this giant supermarket just 10 miles away from the montgomery mall. police presser: a woman had — was sitting in her car and had been shot. she is deceased. almost three hours later authorities arrest the suspect?identified as eulalio tordil ? police believe the federal protective service officer is responsible for both shootings. police say tordil’s alleged shooting spree began thusrday afternoon – after he’s accused of killing his estranged wife at this maryland high school. police presser: one of the plain clothes officers observed a vehicle, a silver vehicle, that matched the description of a homicide that occurred in prince george’s county last night. overnight – police charged tordil with first degree murder and assault along with other related charges in connection to the high school shooting?he’s yet to be charged for friday’s deadly events. homeland security officials tell abc news tordil had been placed on administrative leave, his badge and gun taken after a court order to stay away from his wife was issued last march. police presser sot: since he had already shot four people today we did not want to have any other bloodshed here? as you can see, in this surveillance footage of his arrest police surround his car and he later surrenders without a fight. and that was pierre thomas reporting. a three month baby was somehow still alive after doctors say she had 26 fractures through her body. now the couple who’s accused of abusing the baby faces almost 40 years in prison if convicted. cleopatra ball and warren mccowan are charged with child abuse and child neglect. they’re currently out on bond awaiting trial. the baby is now 1 years old and we’re told is doing well in state custody. court documents obtained by abc-7 state the baby was three months old in march 2015, when her mother, cleopatra ball took the baby to the hospital. ball and warren mccowan told investigators the baby had a bone disease — but doctors ruled out any medical conditions. a trial is expected later this year. …stormtrack weather now! let’s get your first forecast with stormtracker iris lopez the controversial debate over the so called “bathroom bill” h caused a national firestorm. the backlash is the controversial debate over the so called “bathroom bill” h caused a national firestorm. the backlash is growing in states like north carolina and mississippi that have both passed laws restricting who can use bathrooms. there’s worry the debate is just getting started in texas. abc-7’s josie ortegon reports: from north carolina to mississippi. laws restricting the rights of transgenders causing financial turmoil. 3rd sot richard dayoub–“jobs are on the line, economic development growth in those states is being challenged now.” similar ordinances failed at least twice in texas, once in houston and just this week in rockwall. in an interview with wfaa, lt. governor dan patrick said he would support a quote, “bathroom bill” in th upcoming legislative session. “make sure men don’t go into the women’s locker rooms and right now if it’s not a problem, then no one should complain about if we pass a bill to stop it.” as opposition grows, texas businesses are hoping to prevent potential backlash if it did happen…by signing the “texas competes pledge–a coalition vowing to open business and bathrooms to everyone. stand-up “nearly 900 businesses across the state have signed the “texa competes pledge. locally, more than 30 businesses have signed it, including mesa street grill in west el paso.” aaro means sot–“what people do in the privacy of their bathrooms, homes, is really none of our business as a business. it’s a personal thing to them, for us to exclude anybody on account of who they are or what they identify as isn’t the right thing to do. ” richard dayoub with the el paso chamber of commerce says while they believe it’s the right thing to do–he knows not everyone will be in support : 8:08 “we’re not asking all of our members to sign on to this. our members run their business and they’re free to decide on themselves what their positions willb e in support of or not.” a spokesperson for lt. gov patrick tells abc-7 while he supports a statewide ban, there’s nothing in the works yet in terms of legislation. do you want uber to stay in el paso?
