reps are sounding off about how they’re being dealt with as the state preps for a big economic boom in the area. sunland park sits along the mexico border, sandwiched between el paso and santa teresa… a small town expecting a flood of business passing through it’s port of entry. abc-7’s jamie warren is live with a story you’ll see only on abc-7 jamie? a company contracted by the new mexico department of transportation is surveying the public about transportation needs. but some in sunland park say what’s best for business isn’t necessarily best for them. 29-35 35-47 1:07-1:15 2:54;12 yeah we have cause for concern and i think we have a right to feel insulted two sunland park city councilors aren’t holding back their feelings abpit a 400- thousand dollar transportation study sot pardon my french, i think you’re being half ass nmdot says as business on the border grows, traffic will increase in santa teresa, sunland park and unincoporated parts of the county. but unless there’s an alternative route for trucks — some fear businesses on mcnutt road will suffer 2:15;16 at the end of the day all we are is a bypass for the santa teresa port of entry. i’m not sure anyone signed up to be that 1:50;36 we definitely don’t need more tractor trailers trying to drive through a community and an area that we hope becomes something greater with a little entertainment others during wednesday meeting said they feel the consulting firm is using their city’s poverty to get federal funds. and once the money’s awarded, they won’t see it. the consulting company says they’re listening to all these concerns and will come back to the community to talk about reccommendations. but reps remain skeptical 6;55;08 let’s be crystal clear to listen to your concerns. we can dwell on the past that’s not going to solve anything if you have a plan to move forward for this particular study let’s talk about it 1:27;20 what i understand is we’re going to destroy sunland park nothing being talked about today is set in stone. if you’d like to get more information on the survey… you can read it right now at kvia.com. on our homepage, just find the search tool… and type in “border development survey.” jamie, with a another story that’s only on abc-seven. new at six… video just back
