Nearly 200 pounds of pot seized, Mexican woman arrested

Customs officers at the Bridge of the Americas arrested a woman after they allegedly discovered 193 pounds of marijuana in her van.

Claudia Elena Gonzalez Gonzalez, 28, of Cuauhtmoc, Chihuahua, Mexico, remains in custody facing charges for the failed attempt to smuggle pot into the U.S.

An officer at the bridge noticed Gonzalez was nervous when she drove up to an inspection booth in a 2008 Dodge Caravan.

The officer directed Gonzalez to a secondary inspection where drug sniffing dogs who alerted them to drugs in the floor of the van.

Officers scanned the vehicle with an x-ray machine and located 178 bundles of marijuana allegedly hidden in the floor of the van.

Over the weekend, CBP officers seized nearly 643 pounds of marijuana during various seizures at El Paso ports of entry.
