Rodriguez edges opponents in race for treasurer

Eric Rodriguez edges opponents in race for treasurer.

Three Democrats were on the ballot: Eric Rodriguez, Eugenia Montoya Ortega, and Shannon Reynolds.

Rodriguez has 5,234 votes (36%).

Ortega has 4,853 votes (33%).

Reynolds has 4,647 votes (32%).

There will be no runoff election. The winner will face Jill Johnson in November.

The seat is currently held by embattled Treasurer David Gutierrez.

A grand jury indicted Gutierrez in March on allegations he committed public corruption and gross immorality by a public official.

Gutierrez admitted to offering an employee $1,000 for sex in 2011.
