Two hospitalized after plane crashes in Rio Grande south of Las Cruces

Two people were hospitalized Saturday after a plane crashed in the Rio Grande south of Las Cruces.

New Mexico State Police said a single engine aircraft was found in the Rio Grande just west of State Road 28, though they do not know what time the crash happened.

When officers arrived, both occupants from the plane had left the scene. Investigators soon learned a good Samaritan ha taken them to Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces. Both were later transferred to University Medical Center in El Paso.

The Federal Aviation Administration will be in charge of the investigation.
