Las Cruces Police identify man killed in crash Wednesday night

Police identified the man killed in a crash Wednesday night as 23-year-old Adrian Guerrero, the rear-seat passenger of a GMC Jimmy struck by another vehicle.

The SUV rolled near the intersection of Spruce Avenue and Triviz Drive at about 9 p.m.

Police learned Guerrero was partially ejected from the Jimmy and, for a brief time, pinned underneath the vehicle. People who witnessed the crashed assisted in lifting the vehicle so that Guerrero could be pulled out from underneath. Witnesses told investigators Guerrero was not wearing a seat belt.

Traffic investigators determined the driver of the GMC Jimmy was traveling behind a pickup with both vehicles headed east on Spruce. The truck and the Jimmy both turned left, onto Triviz on a green light. At the same time, a Nissan Sentra was headed west on Spruce through the intersection. The Sentra struck the passenger-side of the Jimmy causing the SUV to flip on its side.

Police said the 22-year-old man driving the Jimmy and his front-seat passenger, a 19-year-old woman, were transported to Memorial Medical Center with minor injuries.

Police do not suspect alcohol is a factor. The investigation continues and no citations have not been issued at this time.
