Construction for phase 2 of Hike and Bike Project begins Wednesday

Phase two of the Viscount Hike and Bike project is set to begin on Wednesday, July 13.

The City of El Paso’s Capital Improvement Department scheduled lane closures for westbound traffic along Viscount Blvd. from Sunmount Dr. to Hawkins Blvd.

Three lane closures are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, but are subject to change to accommodate unforeseen circumstances.

The closures are intended to provide a safe and efficient work area, and proper traffic control measures and detours will be implemented for the duration of the project, which is scheduled to last until late Fall 2016.

Hike and Bike supports the development of a pedestrian and bike corridor along Viscount, between Montwood Dr. and Ponder Park.

The project is an effort in the City of El Paso’s commitment to enhance the regional transportation system, the corridor will improve connectivity among several existing neighborhoods, Ponder Park, Eastside Transfer Terminal, El Paso Community College, and commercial districts near Viscount and Hawkins.

The approximate project budget of $955,000 includes funds for a 14 foot long pedestrian bike bath, trees, greenery, and other amenities.
