Woman offers Las Cruces police officers free hugs

A Las Cruces woman said she was very touched by the moment of silence for the slain Dallas Officers at Albert Johnson Park. When it was over, she held up a sign offering hugs for police officers.

Wanda Montoya told ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom it always hurts when she hears about law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

“It makes you realize how often they put their lives in danger to protect the public,” Montoya said. She didn’t know any of the officers she was hugging Wednesday, but still wanted to show her support.

Montoya referred to police as “our protectors” and acknowledged she feels overwhelmed because American soldiers are overseas fighting for freedom while here in America “we are killing each other.”

Montoya said we all make mistakes and should not take matters into our own hands.

“Let justice prevail,” she said.
