Police: Motorcyclist speeding prior to crashing on 5600 block of Mesa

Police said Monday the motorcyclist who suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash was speeding and lost control of his motorcycle while switching lanes.

The motorcyclist, 31-year-old Gabriel Schaffino, was rushed to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries after he crashed on the 5600 block of North Mesa at about 7 p.m. Sunday.

A woman riding with Schaffino, 24-year-old Marlene Bedoya, suffered “non-life threatening” injuries, police said. Bedoya was also hospitalized.

According to investigators, neither Schaffino or Bedoya were wearing helmets.
