Cabada sworn into office; 1st independent mayor in Jurez history
A historic moment in Juárez politics as Armando Cabada Alvídrez assumed the office of Mayor shortly after midnight Monday.
Cabada is the first independent candidate to be elected mayor in Juarez. He will be in office for a two year period from 2016-2018.
In his first message in office, Cabada referred to his taking office as a “historic day for Juárez.” He reminded every citizen that they too are part of government.
“Never before had an independent citizen had the honor of utilizing this tribune in a capacity as mayor,” Cabada said, “I am excited and feel I have an enormous responsibility.”
Cabada said he is proud more than 210,000 Juarenses voted for him in order to form a municipal government that is “independent and free.”
“The public put its trust in us because it hopes we will make decisions that will improve our way of life,” Cabada said.
The newly-elected mayor urged local government officials to put partisan politics aside. “Society is anxious to confirm, in us, the possibility of finding solutions and successful governing free of party politics … for our children, for our families, for us, and for Juárez.”
