First freeze: how you can help those in need

‘Tis the season for winter coats and blankets, but not every has the money or the means to stay warm in the cold.

The Extreme Weather Task Force hands out blankets when temperatures get cold. If you know of a family or person in need you can call 2-1-1 and they will be put on a list to receive a blanket.

If you want to donate blankets can be dropped off at any El Paso fire station.

Last year the Extreme Weather Task Force handed out over 700 blankets, this year they have only collected about 200 to give away so far.

The Rescue Mission is another location that needs resources this holiday season, and you can drop blankets and coats off at their new location, 221 N. Lee Street.

The Rescue Mission will also have 10 addition cots set up tonight, but still expects to be at capacity.

Here’s a list of other organizations and phone numbers so you can see what donations they need the most.
