A man who El Paso police say was driving drunk Tuesday night crashed into a construction vehicle that was attempting to close the freeway.

Police said 53-year-old Vicente Vasquez Jr. was driving a silver Chevrolet Silverado in the westbound lanes of I-10 around 10 p.m. when he hit a construction vehicle that was closing the freeway for maintenance.

The construction vehicle had a protective impact bumper and emergency lights that are designed to protect workers in a collision.

He is charged with DWI 3rd or more offense and was booked into the El Paso County detention facility on a $10,000 bond.
