BREAKING: Suspect in 2008 baseball bat killing extradited to US, pleads guilty to manslaughter
Raymundo Martinez, 29, pled guilty to Manslaughter for his role in the 2008 death of then 19-year-old Hector Longoria, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
In June of 2008, the sheriff’s office took over missing person’s case from the Horizon Police Department. The case quickly turned into a murder investigation.
Investigators learned Longoria had been killed and possibly buried in the desert area outside Horizon City.
In 2010, the sheriff’s office said Longoria was beaten to death with a baseball bat. At the time, investigators were looking for Martinez and another suspect identified as Adrian Madrid.
An arrest warrant was issued for Martinez, who fled to Mexico.
In August 2012, Longoria’s remains were located.
In January of 2016, the U.S. Marshals located and extradited Martinez from Juarez , Mexico.
The sheriff’s office provided no update on Madrid’s whereabouts or the status of the case against him.
