NMSU’s Mason Fishback named Second-Team All-American

Collegiate Baseball Newspaper named NMSU catcher Mason Fishback a Second-Team All-American on Thursday.

Fishback becomes only the second Aggie baseball player to ever receive that honor after Gabe Veloz was named to the All-America team in 2002.

Fishback had 24 games this season with multiple hits and finished in the top ten in the WAC in 16 statistical categories.

His best game came at Utah Valley on May 5 when he went 5-6 with 5 RBI. He then recorded four hits the very next day and was named the WAC Hitter of the Week. In total, Fishback recorded 52 RBI in 53 starts this year.

Fishback ended the year having reached base in 15 straight contests.

The junior also had a .564 slugging and .417 on-base percentage with three stolen bags.

The Aggies finished with a 35-22 record and earned the top-seed in the WAC Tournament, before losing their first two games of the tourney.

Fishback is originally from Rancho, Cucamonga, Calif.
