Elderly woman killed while crossing Dyer

Police are investigating a deadly pedestrian wreck in Northeast El Paso.

It happened at about 2:10 pm on the 8100 block of Dyer.

Police said a woman, believed to be in her 60s, was crossing Dyer at the Titantic intersection when a 2002 Chevy Express van, traveling northbound, struck the woman.

Police said the woman was not using a crosswalk when she was struck by the van.

No charges have been filed against the driver, identified by police as as 45-year-old Joy Wheaton.

Police said Wheaton was traveling with nine passengers believed to be the driver’s children.

The victim, not yet identified by police, was transported to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
