Fire crews rescue man trapped in confined space

El Paso and Sunland Park fire crews responded to a report of a man who fell 25 feet into an underground pipe Tuesday morning, officials said.

The man, who is in his 30s, fell at the Rio Grande Power Plant on Doniphan Drive, near the Texas-New Mexico border.

El Paso Electric told ABC-7 he is a member of the contracted security team.

Sunland Park Fire Department Battalion Chief Ramiro Rios said crews used a rope, pulleys and harness to perform a confined space rescue.

The man refused to be taken to a hospital.

No injuries were reported.
