Next total solar eclipse set for 2024

You might want to hold onto your eclipse safety glasses for a little longer.

The next total solar eclipse will be seven years from now, and it turns out El Paso will possibly have a better view.

That’s right, in 2024, the moon will once again cover the sun. This time, it will stretch from Texas to Maine. If you want to be in the path of totality, you won’t have to travel as far.

“We will still be in a partial eclipse but the totality area will only be about 400 miles away from El Paso,” Gregory Lundeen with the National Weather Service said.

Lundeen said it’s possible it could last a little longer.

“It’s going to be wider and a little bit slower,” he said.

Plus, El Paso will possibly have a better view.

“The coverage of the sun will be 80% because we’ll be closer to the path of totality,” Lundeen said.

Lundeen also said west Texas is expected to have the best view of the next total solar eclipse because it’s predicted to have the less cloud coverage that day, which will be April 8, 2024.

Which means you have 7 years to prepare. If you miss it again, you’ll have to wait until 2045.
