Border Patrol arrest convicted murderer accused of driving stolen car in New Mexico

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested a man on Aug. 17 who was allegedly driving a stolen car in New Mexico.

Agents recognized a sports utility vehicle approach a checkpoint on Interstate 10 that was previously reported stolen.

Michael Hopkins was reportedly driving the car. Hopkins’ criminal history includes serving time for Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Robbery in West Virginia.

Hopkins also had a warrant out for his arrest out of West Virginia for robbery involving a weapon.

Hopkins has already served 15 years for the murder charge.

New Mexico State Police have taken Hopkins into custody.
