Montwood band director suspended without pay; termination pending

The Socorro Independent School District Board of Trustees voted Wednesday evening to suspend the Montwood High School band director without pay.

Albert Licon, 38, was arrested last month and charged with having an improper relationship with a student. Court documents state Licon met with the girl at a park and in the school’s band room, where he allegedly kissed and touched her inappropriately.

Earlier this month, Licon was accused of being in possession of child pornography. El Paso police said Licon was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals. He was booked into jail under a $20,000 bond.

During Wednesday night’s meeting, the school board also made a recommendation for termination. The board will take it up at its next meeting next month
