Wrestling Texas ranks three El Paso wrestlers in boys top 25

WrestlingTexas.com has released its list of the top 25 boys pound-for-pound wrestlers in Texas, and that list includes three wrestlers from El Paso.

The site ranks wrestlers based on success at the state meet as well as head-to-head results against other other top wrestlers.

It also slightly favored wrestlers at the 6A level. Thus, Bel Air wrestler Christian Hernandez was a notable snub – mostly thanks to wrestling in 5A. Hernandez won a state title at 145 pounds as a junior after claiming third place as a sophomore.

Isaiah Delgado of Eastwood was the highest-ranked wrestler from El Paso. He was ranked third in the entire state by the site.

Delgado has won back-to-back state championships – first at 106 and then at 113 pounds. He was one of two Troopers – long with Noah Vasquez – to claim state crowns last season.

Coming in at number seven on the list was Franklin’s James McClain-Green. He won district and regional titles last season and then capped off his spectacular year with a 6-4 victory over Alonzo Herrera of Allen to claim the state title at 120 pounds.

Eastlake’s Joshua Molinar was ranked 18th in the state. Molinar has only lost twice in the state of Texas in the past two seasons. One of those losses came at the state finals in 2017, while the other came in 2016 to an eventual state champion.
