Dori Fenenbock resigns from EPISD to run for Congress

El Paso ISD trustee Dori Fenenbock has resigned her position to run for Congress.

In a letter posted on the district’s Facebook page, she wrote, “With careful consideration and deliberation, I write this letter to formally announce my resignation from the EPISD Board of Trustees. This decision does not come lightly considering the success the District has had during my tenure as President of the Board and the bright future ahead.”

Fenenbock has been campaigning for months. The Federal Elections Commission reports she had $328,746 cash in hand for her campaign for the 16th U.S. Congressional District as of June 30.

She launched her “Dori Fenenbock for Congress” Facebook page months ago and her VoteDori webpage has been up for some time, but she had not officially made a public announcement declaring her candidacy. That triggers her resignation from the school board.

She made the announcement on the same day El Paso County Judge Veronica Escobar notified the county of her intention to run for the same office, thus making effective her resignation for office. Escobar is set to make her public announcement Saturday at 4 p.m.

Nichole LeClaire, a Navy veteran and Andress High School graduate, is also running for the position.

Congressman Beto O’Rourke is now running for Ted Cruz’s senate seat.

“There is always more work to be done,” Fenenbock’s message reads, “But I have been called to other service at a critical time in our history. I do not want that to be a distraction from the good work happening in our District. Therefore, I leave knowing our students, our teachers and our community are set on a course for tremendous success.”
