FirstLight Federal Credit Union warns members about phone scam

Scammers are using FirstLight Federal Credit Union’s name in order to gain the personal and financial account information of El Pasoans, the credit union announced Tuesday.

The scammers are reportedly targeting 915 area code mobile numbers and are sending text messages asking bank customers to call an unfamiliar number to “reactivate their FirstLight debit card” or to “increase your transaction limits.”

The credit union said some of the information the scammers are requesting include PINs, security codes and card numbers.

There are also reports the scammers are using Hurricane Harvey as an excuse to trick customers into giving up their personal information.

FirstLight Federal Credit Union said it does not contact members in this manner and would never request this type of personal information in order to verify an account.

If you are a current member of FirstLight Federal Credit Union member and fell prey to the scheme, you should call 1-800-351-1670 immediately.
