Former EPISD Superintendent rescued from flooding in Houston

Former El Paso Independent School District Superintendent Lorenzo Garcia has been rescued from flooding in the Houston area following Tropical Storm Harvey.

Photos taken by the Associated Press show a man being rescued with his German shepherd in Spring, TX. The man in the photo identified himself as “Joe Garcia.”

Garcia was the EPISD Superintendent from 2006 to 2011. He served time after pleading guilty in the district’s cheating scheme in 2012.

He was sentenced to more than three years in prison before being released early.

Court records show Garcia was living in Houston and working for a roofing company.
