Wanted: Man accused of sexually assaulting 12-year-old girl

Las Cruces police are asking for the public’s help locating a 42-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

Police said Vidal Galvan Jr. resides in Las Cruces but has no permanent home.

Galvan Jr. is charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of attempted criminal sexual penetration of a minor.

Police obtained an arrest warrant was Sept. 18, 2017, but have been unable to locate Galvan Jr.

Investigators learned Galvan Jr. sexually assaulted the young girl at a home in Las Cruces in between July 12th and July 14, 2017.

A criminal complaint obtained by ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom states, that when the accuser came forward, Galvan Jr. agreed to take a polygraph test to prove his innocence. The document states the test indicated Galvan was being “deceptive.”

When a police detective spoke with Galvan Jr. about the findings, Galvan Jr. allegedly admitted he molested the accuser. The court document does not state why Galvan Jr. was not arrested at that time or why Galvan Jr. was allowed to leave.

Galvan Jr. is Hispanic, 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighs approximately 290 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes, police said.

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $1,000 for information that helps police locate and arrest Galvan.

Anyone with information on Galvan’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The phone number is operable 24-hours a day and callers do not have to give their name to collect a reward.
