Aaron Jones honored at UTEP football game against UTSA

The Utep miners exploded on to the field Saturday kicking off their game against UTSA and Miner fans were in full support.

But they also got to catch a glimpse of pro NFL player Aaron Jones.

“i think it’s awesome especially because my son as a little kid was a packers fan and just to have someone from el paso to be playing on that team is phenomenal,” said one Miner fan.

Even Green Bay Packer fans showed their colors.

“Having watched him play here because I’m stationed at Fort Bliss it was incredible when they drafted him and to watch him do what he’s done … I think he’s going to win rookie of the year,” said another fan.

The former Burges High School football player and UTEP running back turned pro — talked about the differences between college ball and the NFL

“Bigger play book the play book, changes every week versus in college everything stays the same. Defensive lineman are bigger, faster and stronger. I mean your playing against grown men I’m 22 they are 32 so that’s a 10 year difference,” said Aaron Jones.

Jones also tells ABC-7 what’s motivated him to succeed.

“God, family and friends,” Jones said.

Jones says without his family’s support he wouldn’t be were he’s at today.

“They are my back bone, I need them there every step of the way,” Jones told ABC-7.

Jones’s father Alvin says seeing UTEP honoring his son and handing out bobble heads is a surreal experience.

“It’s a testament to his handwork, dedication and humbleness,” Alvin Jones said.

While Jones keeps a close watch on his brother UTEP linebacker Alvin Jr. he leaves a message for up and coming athletes

“Don’t ever let no one tell you no or you can’t do something. If I was to listen to that I wouldn’t be where I am now so just follow your dreams and keep working hard at what you’re doing,” Jones said.
