Cross Country: San Elizario brings home another state title; Eastwood finishes in 3rd place

The San Elizario Eagles proved once again that when it comes to cross country, they are the best in the state of Texas.

The UIL cross country meet was held in Round Rock, TX on Saturday.

The San Elizario boy’s team was the team to beat in 4A and for the 4th straight year the Eagles won a state championship.

It was also a first place finish for San Elizario’s Edwin Gomez.

He won the individual gold medal after finishing with a time of 15:36.16.

San Elizario isn’t the only team bringing back medals to the Borderland.

In 6A, the Eastwood Troopers boy’s team won the bronze after finishing in 3rd place.

Eastwood’s Gabe Armijo was the first to cross the finish line for the Troopers.

Armijo finished in 5th place overall.

In 5A, Hanks runner Michael Abeyta won the silver medal after finishing in second place with a time of 15:00.18.

The 5A teams that competed were Burges and Austin.

Burges finished in 14th place, while Austin finished 16th.
