Northeast El Paso Man allegedly tries to escape arrest by jumping out of an attic

A man wanted on several criminal warrants allegedly tried to escape through an attic when officers arrived at his home, said the El Paso Police Department.

Police say just after 1 a.m. Thursday, officers met with Christopher Mendez, 42, on the 8800 block of Mt. Bona in Northeast El Paso.

Mendez and the officers were conversing between a closed door when Mendez allegedly said “Hold on, I’ll be right back”. Police said Mendez then ran upstairs to the attic, kicked out a ventilation fan, and went on to the roof.

Officers were able to locate Mendez on the roof and placed him under arrest for evading arrest.

He was also arrested for his outstanding warrants including two harassment charges and evading arrest with a vehicle.

Mendez was booked into the El Paso County Jail on bonds totaling $52,000.
