SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY: El Paso business owners want you to shop local

November 25 is small business Saturday. It’s one day out of the year dedicated to shopping local. Although businesses ABC-7 spoke with hope El Pasoans will continue to do that year round.

At Union Plaza, there were dozens of vendors and shoppers. Vendors say the benefit of shopping local is the unique product they bring.

“They can come get something that’s more personal, has more thought into it,” one vendor, selling handmade jewelry, said.

But it’s not just vendors, shop owners right across the border rely on small business Saturday as well. They say overall, the holiday season is critical time for business.

“People are buying more than last year,” one shop owner said. “I can see there’s a little more money on the street. We struggle on January, February, March. It was elections in November. So we’re coming from a real bad year. I think we’re going to close real strong.”

The holiday originated in 2010.
