El Pasoan receives surprise $100 gift

Since Thanksgiving night, about 125 Walmart workers in Texas, including one from El Paso, have received $100 gifts from an anonymous donor.

The donor, who doesn’t have any affiliation with Walmart, wanted to recognize the employees for working during the retail rush on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

El Pasoan Michael Hita was among those who received the surprise gift.

“Whoever you are, thank you so much,” Hita said in a video he posted on social media. “I’m a Walmart employee and I don’t get holiday pay, so this means a lot. You have no idea how happy I was to see this. I’m so shocked.

“Thank you, thank you so much. Thank you,” Hita said. “Happy holidays. God bless you. Thank you so much!”

The gifts were delivered using Earnin — an app that gives people access to their pay as they earn it, right from their smartphones.

The donor deposited more than $12,000 in employees’ bank accounts.
