El Paso man charged with 5th DWI

A 56-year-old Texas man pulled over for a traffic stop by New Mexico State Police in Alamadorgo
Wednesday afternoon wound up being charged with his fifth DWI, the arresting officer said.

The officer said that when he came into contact with Ruben Anderson, of El Paso, he detected a strong order of alcohol coming from Anderson. The officer said he asked Anderson to take a sobriety test after he showed signs of being intoxicated.

Anderson was placed under arrest for DWI and when asked to have his breath measured, he refused, the officer said.

A search warrant was applied for and approved by the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and Anderson was transported to a local hospital where his blood was drawn for laboratory testing.

According to the officer, Anderson had four DWI arrests. He was booked into the Otero County Detention Center after being charged with his fifth DWI, speeding and open container.
