Burges beats Andress in key district game

The Burges boys basketball team got a crucial district win at home Tuesday night against Andress.

The Mustangs defeated the Eagles by a final of 68-51 in front of a packed house to move their District 1-5A record to 10-0. The Eagles fell to 8-2 in district with both losses coming at the hands of Burges.

Tristen Newton scored 41 points for the Mustangs while his brother, Jawaun Newton, added 22 of his own. The brothers combined for 63 of the 68 points Burges scored on the evening.

Andress scored the first bucket of the game, but Burges then went on a 16-3 run to take an early 16-5 lead.

The Eagles hung around for much of the second quarter but simply could not stop Tristen Newton from getting where he wanted on the floor.
