Community Champion: Del Valle soccer coach Bruce Reichman wins 600 games

Del Valle boys soccer coach Bruce Reichman has achieved a lot since taking the reigns of a brand new program in 1987.

He’s led the Conquistadores to two state titles, one state runner-up finish, and five Final Four appearances.

He’s also won a lot of games – 600 to be exact. As you can imagine, he is the active leader in wins among boys varsity soccer coaches in the state of Texas.

For his latest accomplishment, Reichman is this week’s Community Champion, sponsored by Southwest University.

Reichman’s Conquistadores defeated Parkland on penalty kicks Tuesday to secure his 600th career victory. It wasn’t easy though as Del Valle found itself down three goals early in the match. But Reichman was confident in his squad.

“Oh, they’ve been doing that all year, and we know we have the ability to come back. When they start playing they have that refuse-to-lose attitude,” he said.

After the game he took a brief moment to reflect on what his 600th win means before quickly turning his attention to the rest of the season.

“It’s amazing. You know, to have a well-fought game like that, it was really cool,” he said. “So, it’s exciting, but there’s still work to be done. It’s still early in the season.”

Del Valle improved ot 4-0 in district play with the win and appears on track to have yet another stellar season.

That kind of consistency has inspired other coaches at Del Valle, including head football coach Jesse Perales.

“You know what, I couldn’t be happier. Coach Reichman is a staple of Del Valle soccer. And he’s been here for such a long time. He’s a winner,” said Perales. “I mean, I look up to him. He’s a mentor for me.”
