Man steals ring from a Las Cruces J.C. Penny

Police are searching for the man who allegedly stole a $3,200 ring from a Las Cruces J.C. Penny Wednesday afternoon.

The Las Cruces Police Department said around 3:00 P.M. a young man asked to see a ring, valued at $3,249, from the jewelry department. After he was handed the ring, he reportedly ran from the store and got into a black Nissan Sentra with a New Mexico License plate.

Later that same day, police said a similar incident occurred at another J.C. Penny store in El Paso.

Police believe the two incidents were committed by the same person. They said the man appears to be in his late 20’s.

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps identify the young man.

Anyone with information that can help identify the suspect is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Those who provide tips through Crime Stoppers do not have to provide their own name to collect a reward and can remain completely anonymous.
